2025 Projects
We continued working with Glover Equity at Glover Park, where the primary project was building a community garden and shed.
We also continued work on the Hinman Hiking Trail, connecting our path through the fields to the Hinman Road. Much of this is also part of the VAST snowmobile trail in the winter. We also started work on directional and information signs for the trail. Read more on this trail here:
We reviewed the updated maps for the Black Hills.
At the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Access area for the Barton River on Still Hill Road, we obtained permission to mow a short path from the parking area to a cedar grove at the river, and place an Aldo Leopold bench. This provides easy access from Glover Village to a lovely spot to contemplate nature. https://glovertrails.org/barton-river-bench/
2024 Projects
The Glover Equity Committee and the Glover Trails Committee jointly applied for and received a community grant from the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative to build a sensory trail and all-access play facilities at Glover Park. Hinman Hiking Trail — This year we began a trail to the east of Lake Parker that starts in West Glover village, follows a section of the old Hinman Road, goes through the historic Parker Settlement area, and ends up at the West Glover Cemetery. This will be part of a walking trail around Lake Parker that allows people to walk off of Parker Road and connect to the Lake Parker walking path at the south end of the lake, maintained by the Lake Parker Association. We obtained permission to skirt the edges of a hay field and a corn field along Parker Road, built a bridge to cross the drainage ditch to get to the field, and found a suitable point to cross through the trees between the two fields.
We put up a second kiosk at the Greensboro entrance to the Black Hills.
