The Black Hills Trails are open to the public from January through August for hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. The trails are closed from September through December as they are used by a private hunting club.
Please:
- Remember that most of the land adjacent to the Black Hills is private property.
- Use the two designated entries/exits to the Black Hills Trails (shown as parking areas on the map): in Glover, at Hinman Rd and Halsey Lane, and in Greensboro, on Black Hills Dr off of Highlander St.
- Stay on the signed trails.
- Respect the landowners’ wishes including no trespassing signs and blocked/closed trails.
Updated map below! Even if you downloaded the previous version, you will want to update to this one.
The Black Hills map above can be downloaded into the Avenza app on your smartphone, and it can then be used to find your location even without cell service. This is highly recommended to enhance your enjoyment of the trails and for your own safety.
Steps to use Avenza
- First, while you’re on wi-fi, find and install the free Avenza app from your App Store.
- Then load the Black Hills map:
- The easiest way is to go to this web page on your phone, and click here to open the map on your phone. Then look for the “share” symbol (on an iPhone, this is a square with an arrow pointing up) and click on it. This should show you a list of apps, including Avenza. Choose Avenza, and the map should load. You can then open the Avenza app and open up that map.
- An alternative is to open the Avenza app, Click on My Maps, then on the plus sign in the upper right. Choose Import Maps, then “From the Web”. Then give it this URL: https://glovertrails.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/BlackHillsTrailsDraft072325_18x15.pdf
- Once you have the map loaded, you can open Avenza and choose that map. When your location is on the map, you’ll show up as a blue dot. This will work even if you have no cell service.
